A new online training module has been launched to help managers improve their knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) risk assessment process. This programme is aligned to the HSE Enterprise Risk Management Policy. It will provide you with the tools and techniques to effectively identify, evaluate, and reduce risks in the workplace. Enrolling in this online module can significantly improve your ability to safeguard your workplace, ensuring a safer and healthier environment for employees.
This training is accessible to all HSeLanD users.
Who this training is for
This module is mandatory for line, service and department managers that supervise and manage people where there are risks in their work environment, activities or tasks. It applies to clerical admin Grade V and above; and CNM 1 and CMM1 and above.

On successful completion of this module participants will be able to:
- explain why risk assessment is undertaken
- define the risk assessment terminology
- identify who is responsible to ensure the risk assessment process is completed
- apply the 4 steps of the risk assessment process
Course specification
The training covers hazard identification, risk analysis, and control measures. It also delves into regulatory requirements and best practices in OSH.
The module includes detailed worked examples that illustrate key concepts and techniques in OSH risk assessment. These examples provide practical insights and demonstrate how to apply theoretical knowledge to healthcare situations.

Approximately 30 minutes.
Assessment
There are a number of knowledge checks throughout the module. To get a certificate of completion, you must complete a short assessment.

Training records
Managers must keep copies of employees' training records on file. This is in line with the HSE National Records Retention Policy. The policy requires managers to keep electronic files for 7 years after an employee's term of service ends.
The OSH training toolkit provides a template for recording, scheduling and monitoring training requirements.
Refresher training
This programme must be refreshed every 3 years. In some cases refresher training may be required more frequently. This will be identified through the risk assessment or training needs assessment (TNA) process.
