Register for HR and Payroll Self Service
To activate your HR and Payroll Self Service account, all employees should follow the steps below.
If you are a new employee, you do not need to complete the steps to activate your account.
- Go to the logon screen for HR and Payroll Self Service
- Click on 'Register Here'
- Follow the instructions on screen
Registration advice
Details you have submitted are not valid
Message on screen 'Registration unsuccessful, the details you have submitted are not valid. Please contact your line manager to verify your details'
You received this message because the date of birth, PPS number or personnel number you entered did not match the SAP HR and Payroll System data.
If you work in any HSE region (except HSE North East) send an email to NPA@hse.ie with a copy of official documentation that includes the following:
- name
- employee number
- date of Birth
- PPS number
Examples of official documentation include:
- birth certificate
- passport
- driving licence
- public services card
- government document
Once employee data is updated on the SAP HR record, you can proceed with registration for your employee account on HR and Payroll Self Service.

Devices you can use to access HR and Payroll Self Service
You can access HR and Payroll Self-Service on your:
- work or personal computer
- mobile phone or tablet
When logging in from a personal device, you will be sent a 8 digit verification code via text message to your mobile phone. This is a security step, similar to the process used in online banking.
If you do not have a mobile phone number, you will continue to receive the verification code to your email.
For security reasons, managers must access HR and Payroll Self Service using a work device.
Follow these steps to get set up for the first time and to set your password.
- Access HR and Payroll Self Service
- Select the Password Reset option
- Enter your Logon ID. This is your personnel number preceded by E and mobile number in the format 353 87*******
- Select Reset
- Enter your Logon ID and type in (or copy and paste) the Temporary Password received in the text message
- Select Log on
- Enter the Old Password. This is the Temporary Password sent to your mobile number. Enter a new password and confirm this. The password must be at least 8 characters long with a requirement for one uppercase letter, one number, and a special character for example $&!
- Select Change
- Your password is now changed and you are logged in to HR and Payroll Self Service
How to log in to HR and Payroll Self-Service for the first time from a personal device
Follow these steps to get set up for the first time and to set your password:
- Access HR and Payroll Self Service
- Select Password Reset
- Enter your Login ID. This is your HSE (SAP) personnel number prefaced by the letter E for Employees and R for Retirees and mobile number in the format 35387*******
- Select Reset
- Enter your Login ID and type in (or copy and paste) the Temporary Password received in the text message
- Select Log on. Accessing Self-Service from a personal device requires an additional verification code, an 8-digit number every time you log in. The code is sent via text message to your mobile phone. This is a security step, similar to the process used in online banking
- Enter the verification code on the login screen
- Click Log on
- Enter the Old Password. This is the Temporary Password sent to your mobile number. Enter a new password and confirm this. The password must be at least 8 characters long with a requirement for one uppercase letter, one number and a special character for example $&!
- Click Change
- Your password is now changed and you are logged in to HR and Payroll Self Service
Use a desktop shortcut
When you bookmark the HR and Payroll Self Service web address, your browser saves the address for that session only. When you revisit the site using that bookmark you will get an error 'SAML2'.
You are recommended to set up a desktop shortcut for the web address.
Creating a desktop shortcut
- Right-mouse click on a blank part of your desktop
- Select 'New' and 'Shortcut'
- On the next screen enter https://myhseselfservice.hse.ie
- Click Next and name the link as HR and Payroll Self Service logon
- Click Finish
Use your mobile phone
Creating an icon and adding it to your home screen is the easiest way to access HR and Payroll Self Service on your mobile phone.
Save icon on Apple smartphone
- Open Safari internet browser
- Click into address bar and type: https://healthservice.hse.ie/staff/myhseselfservicesupport/
- Click Go
- Click the share button (middle button on the bottom of the screen)
- Scroll up and select Add to Home Screen
- Click Add
- Return to Home Screen and open the newly added icon
- Click Login to HR and Payroll Self Service
Save icon on Android smartphone
- Open Google Chrome internet browser
- Click into address bar and copy and type: https://healthservice.hse.ie/staff/myhseselfservicesupport/
- Click on the 3 dots in top right hand corner
- Scroll up and select Add to Home Screen
- Click Add
- Touch and hold the icon and place it on the home screen
- Click the newly added icon
- Click Login to HR and Payroll Self Service
