Programme aim
This is a national programme developed for first time managers working in clinical and non-clinical service areas across the HSE. The programme assists you in developing the skills and techniques to perform more effectively in your role.
Learning objectives
At the end of this programme you will have a greater understanding of:
- HSE strategy and structure
- quality and patient safety
- personal resilience
- influence and motivation
- time management and delegation
- diversity equality and inclusion
- styles of leading
- communication and introducing change
- giving and receiving constructive feedback
- recognising conflict handling styles
- how to chair a productive meeting
You will have an opportunity to explore your preferences for decision making and communication using the Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI)
Please note: It is advisable you apply for the People Management the Legal Framework Programme before attending the First Time Managers programme.
Duration
Four day virtual programme.
Targeted participants
This virtual programme is aimed at newly appointed/promoted managers and less experienced managers.
Elearning programmes
Pre-work for this programme includes completion of one of the following elearning programmes which are available on HSeLanD:
- Facing challenges as a first time manager
- The reality of being a first time manager
Programme requirements
This virtual programme is an interactive and participative programme. Participants will be engaging with each other and with the facilitator in discussion and in group work. You will need to be able to see and hear each other throughout the programme.
To facilitate the best learning experience for all participants, you should only sign up for a programme if you have a laptop or PC with a camera, audio and a reliable internet connection. Using a tablet or mobile phone is not recommended. These do not allow you to access all the functionality needed to participate in the programme.
NMBI short course pathway
Upon completion of the First Time Managers Programme, 24 continuous professional development (CPD) hours are awarded in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) for registered nurses and midwives.
CORU Continuous Professional Development
Upon completion of the First Time Managers Programme, health and social care professionals registered with CORU can identify this programme as a suitable continuous professional development (CPD) activity for their role. CPD credits may then be allocated based on the new or enhanced learning associated with the activity.
