Elected representatives of local authorities leave

Local authority members may be granted up to a maximum of 12 days of unpaid special leave each year to attend the authority's meetings held during work hours.

You may also be granted up to a maximum of 5 days of unpaid special leave each year to attend local authority events other than meetings held during work hours.

The HSE can only grant leave if it does not incur additional costs as a result of the leave. Applications are considered on merit and the needs of the service.

How to apply

Discuss with your line manager and apply for this leave through HR and Payroll Self Service.

If HR Self Service is not available in your area, apply in writing (by email or letter) to your line manager.
