About video enabled care

Video enabled care (VEC) enables you to consult with service users and colleagues remotely through video technology.

Video consulting in the HSE

Using video allows you to remotely host:

  • one-to-one or small group calls with patients and service users or other clinicians, for example, MDTs, rehab sessions
  • larger clinical groups, for example, patient and clinician education sessions and workshops, larger MDT

Caseloads can be managed as usual, offering video appointments as part of business-as-usual operations. Video appointments are run like any other appointment. Prepare to engage with your patients and service users as normal, except you join them via their own private virtual room.

Using video allows patients and service users to have their consultations remotely.

Users will need a device with a webcam and internet access (smart phone, tablet, laptop or computer).

Patients and service users attend appointments via a weblink that is emailed or sent by text or by letter. They wait for their appointment in their own private virtual room.

Benefits

Benefits of video appointments include:

  • improve accessibility
  • improve patient and service user choice
  • increase the range of services available 'locally'
  • saves on time, travel and carbon footprint
  • reduces transport or travel difficulties
  • creates virtual capacity
  • aids integrated care
