Technical set-up
To make or receive a video call, you will need:
Device
Either a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. You should always use HSE-managed devices, for added security.
Browser
Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Speakers, headphones, microphone
Using a headset (which combines a microphone and headphones) helps reduce background noise, and prevents others from overhearing your conversation.
Webcams
Laptops and PCs with built-in cameras, microphones and speakers are adequate for video consultations, but using external devices typically delivers a better video and audio experience.
Where more than one participant will be in the same room during the video call, use a web camera with a wide-angle lens.
Internet connection
When making video calls, make sure that you have good internet connection. A wired internet connection provides best video quality.
Choosing a video platform
You can discuss with your digital health team which video platform will best suit your needs.
When choosing a platform you should consider:
- ability and needs of your service user/patient base
- how video will be used; with service users, internally with colleagues
- one-to-one or small groups
- staff meetings and training
- educational sessions
- large group conferences
