Dr Kieran Murray, Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician at UL Hospitals Group

UL Hospitals Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Kieran Murray as a Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician.

Dr Murray graduated from University College Dublin with Honours in 2010. He underwent training in Rheumatology/General Internal Medicine in Dublin, Perth and Galway.

In December 2021, he returned from an Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Early Arthritis in the internationally renowned Freeman Hospital, Newcastle and subsequently took up the Consultant Rheumatology post with UL Hospitals Group.

Dr Murray is a keen researcher and has published numerous research papers in internationally renowned journals.

He completed his PhD at St Vincent’s University Hospital/University College Dublin, with research that focused on inflammatory arthritis outcomes. Dr Murray also gained an Honours Master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine from University College Cork, with a thesis that examined alcohol use in inter-county GAA players.

Since then, Dr Murray has continued exploring the subject area of his Master’s thesis, and recently completed research into problem gambling among elite GAA players.

Dr Murray’s analysis of the findings was recently published on the website of RTÉ Brainstorm (available here - http://bit.ly/401m2F5), a partnership of RTÉ and Irish third level institutions, where the academic and research community can contribute to public debate on a broad range of issues.

He has an interest in medical education and previously worked as Intern and undergraduate medicine tutor in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and University College Dublin, and has examined medical students and overseas-trained prospective interns.

Dr Murray’s main interest outside of medicine is Gaelic football and he plays with Mungret Saint Pauls.
