Episode 4 - Care options at Ennis Injury Unit

Fast, efficient, high-level ED alternative operates 365 days a year

In the fourth episode of The UL Hospitals Podcast, we move away from UHL to focus on the Injury Unit at Ennis Hospital. This unit, together with its 'sister' units in Nenagh and St John's Hospitals, provides a swift, efficient Emergency Department-avoidance option for a total of around 40,000 patients every year who need treatment for a range of non-life-threatening injuries, including breaks, sprains, burns and wounds. But how to know when you can be treated in one of these units, instead of presenting at the region's only ED in UHL? We spoke to Dr Cormac Mehigan, Consultant in Emergency Medicine & Lead, Ennis Injury Unit; and Mhairi Barron, Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner to find out more. Thanks to Cormac and Mhairi for making the time to talk to us.
