Appointment of Dr Anees Hassan

[LIMERICK ¦ 15.08.2023] UL HOSPITALS GROUP is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Anees Hassan as a Consultant Medical Oncologist at University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

Dr Hassan graduated as Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Mansoura University in Egypt, and holds Royal Colleges of Physicians (UK) Diplomas in General Internal Medicine and in Medical Oncology, and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

The newly appointed oncologist’s journey in the treatment of cancer began in 2009 in Saudia Arabia, and his completed his Higher Specialist Training in Medical Oncology in Ireland in 2018. He entered the specialist division of the Irish Medical Council in August 2018.

Dr Hassan has worked for more than four years as a Consultant Medical Oncologist, initially spending more than two years at Letterkenny University Hospital and, most recently, a further two year period in Dublin at St James’s Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae Hospital

An active member of the European Society of Medical Oncology, Dr Hassan specialises in the treatment of solid tumours. He has actively participated in national scientific meetings and international congresses in the field of Medical Oncology.

Dr Hassan has also had his research on solid tumours published in national and international journals, and he has participated in numerous leadership and quality meetings.

In addition to clinical work and research, Dr Hassan is interested in medical education and training. He is keen to help trainee physicians continue with their career paths. He is a member of the MRCPI Part 2 Clinical Exam Board, which is a prerequisite for entry into higher specialist training programmes in various medical sub-specialties. Dr Hassan was an Examiner for these exams during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Outside of work, Dr Hassan’s favourite pastime is table tennis.
