UL Hospitals Group Medical and Nursing Schools

Academic Partner

Our academic partner is the University of Limerick (UL).

UL provides undergraduate and postgraduate education and training across campuses and disciplines. They help us to attract and retain health professionals of the highest calibre. There are many joint clinical-academic appointments.

Structured teaching and self-directed learning programmes operate across the hospitals and the university. We also collaborate on many research projects.

UL contributes to the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the clinical services we deliver to our patients. They do this by conducting research designed to answer clinically important questions. They promote interdisciplinary learning and contribute to good governance.

Graduate Entry Medical School (GEMS)

GEMS offers a 4 year medical degree programme open to graduates from any discipline.

The students rotate through the disciplines of Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Psychiatry as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecology. They do this throughout the academic year across UL Hospitals Group sites.

UL GEMS offer 2 Paramedic Studies programmes, one for Practitioner Entry and one for Undergraduate.

Nursing school

The B.Sc.Nursing (General) is a full-time 4 year degree in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at UL. It is run in conjunction with UL Hospitals Group.

Clinical placement coordinators work with colleagues in Ennis, Nenagh and St John’s Hospital. They work to support and help clinical education and reflection sessions for undergraduate students. They also organise induction days for first year and internship students.
