Manual Handling in a Non-Clinical Setting

This training module will improve your knowledge in the management of risks with manual handling of inanimate loads.

It is aligned to the HSE Manual Handling Policy and will equip you with the tools and techniques necessary to undertake risks assessments particular to manual handling of inanimate loads.

By completing this training, you can significantly improve the ability to safeguard your workplace, ensuring a safer and healthier environment for all employees.

Who this training is for

This module is mandatory for line, service and department managers (clerical admin grade V and above) who are involved in supervising and managing people where there are manual handling risks in their work environment, work activities or work tasks

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • describe what is meant by manual handling and ergonomics
  • explain the risk factors are that apply to manual handling tasks
  • describe the key steps in managing manual handling risk
  • identify who is responsible to ensure the risk assessment process is completed
  • explain how to use the HSE Task Specific Manual Handling (inanimate loads) Risk Assessment Pathway

The training covers a wide range of topics, including:

The module includes detailed worked examples that illustrate key concepts and techniques in Task Specific Manual Handling (inanimate loads) Risk Assessment. These examples provide practical insights and demonstrate how to apply theoretical knowledge to healthcare situations.

Training prerequisites

Before enrolling on this programme, you must first complete the HSeLanD module 'Occupational Safety and Health Risk Assessment'.

Duration

The module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete

Assessment

There are a number of knowledge checks throughout the module.

Participants must complete a short assessment.

Training records

Managers must keep copies of employees' training records on file. This is in line with the HSE National Records Retention Policy. The policy requires managers to keep electronic files for 7 years after an employee's term of service ends.

This programme must be refreshed every 3 years.
