In episode 50 of the HSE Talking Health and Wellbeing Podcast, Geraldine Sexton, a HSE Senior Project Dietitian, from the HSE Healthy Eating Active Living Programme, talks about the importance of having a healthy gut She emphasises the significant impact of diet on our gut health, pointing out that what we eat can either support or hinder the delicate balance of our gut microbiome. She encourages us to think about how to expand our plant based diet, with tips and tricks for young and old fussy eaters. Geraldine also addresses common misconceptions and limitations about probiotics.

The launch will showcase the HSE’s new online suicide prevention training programme that helps people to develop their skills to keep others safe from suicide.

The event will be opened by Minister Mary Butler - Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People. Additional speakers include Damien McCallion, HSE, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and John Meehan, Director, National Office for Suicide Prevention.

The launch will showcase the role and impact of suicide prevention training for people with Lived Experience of suicide and for NGO partner agencies working with Irish communities on a daily basis.

The HSE and Department of Health have published new National Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour guidelines for Ireland. The new guidelines provide evidence based recommendations for everyone on the amount and types of physical activity to gain health benefits, as well as recommendations for reducing sedentary behaviour. To create awareness about the new guidelines, HSE Health & Wellbeing hosted a webinar on Tuesday 12th March 2024. During this webinar you will hear about the new guidelines, key messages for public and professionals, the evidence and process for developing the guidelines and the role the guidelines play in enabling more people to be more active, more often.
