Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) services

The EAP service is available to staff members directly employed by the HSE.

Our services include:

  • 1-to-1 talk therapy sessions for staff
  • consultation and advice for managers
  • critical incident response
  • staff wellbeing workshops

Talk therapy for staff

We offer short term, confidential counselling.

Our counsellors can meet with you:

  • in person
  • over the phone
  • by video call

To make an appointment, do 1 of the following:

An EAP team member will discuss your needs and agree the best support options with you. You may be offered up to 6 sessions.

With your consent, your line manager or Occupational Health can also refer you if they believe EAP support could help.

Using internal counselling service at work

Our internal EAP counselling service is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Using the service during working hours is at your manager's discretion.

Support for managers

We provide managers with:

  • advice on staff wellbeing and welfare
  • guidance on supporting mental health in the workplace
  • workshops on wellbeing topics
  • support after critical incidents

If you are a manager concerned about a staff member’s mental health, you should:

  • complete the HSeLanD course ‘Supporting Your Staff's Mental Health: A Programme for HSE Managers’
  • with their consent, refer them to the EAP service using the EAP referral form and email it to your local EAP office

Lena Support Hub

Lena is the HSE's external staff counselling partner (formerly called Inspire).

All HSE employees can access the Lena Support Hub.

To access Lena's online resources, log in to the Lena Support Hub.

These resources may be useful while you wait for your counselling session, or decide whether to proceed.

How to register and use the hub

To start using the hub:

  1. Go to lenasupporthub and click on the purple Sign Up icon (top right)
  2. When prompted, enter your company pin (HSEHUB)
  3. Make note of the randomly-generated username (you will need it each time you log in)
  4. Create a strong password (at least 8 characters, 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number, 1 special character (such as @, !)
  5. Confirm your password and click on Sign Up
  6. On the login page, enter your username and password

If you forget your username, return to the Sign Up page and repeat the process. A new random username is automatically generated. You can use the same password if you wish, or create a new one.

Note: If you do not log in using the username you created at sign-up, your profile information will not be saved.
