āIād like to thank our dedicated staff, past and present, for 50 years of providing comfort, dignity and respect to residents. Their work has touched countless lives and deserves deep appreciation,ā according to John Fitzmaurice, IHA Manager Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal, West Cavan, speaking as a day of celebration and remembrance was held for family members and staff at Arus Breffni Community Nursing Unit, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim in recent weeks.
The day saw residents, staff - past and present ā along with members of the Manorhamilton community, come together to remember all those who have lived and worked in Arus Breffni. It was an event featuring songs, music and dance, with a special video compiled for those present.
Providing residential care for 25 residents, Arus Breffni has been operational for 50 years. Construction on the building commenced in 1974 and the building opened in 1975. From the outset it provided breakfast and hot meals along with Christmas dinners for those who were isolated or alone.
When residents move to Arus Breffni, they are facilitated and encouraged by staff to continue to play an active part in their communities. Many attend local Day Centres, while other residents socialise locally by attending local coffee shops and visiting the local Friday Market in Manorhamilton. There are various outings arranged by staff that further encourage community engagement.
Welcoming everyone and adding to his appreciation, John Fitzmaurice reflected on the impact that the staff had had on the residents, their families and the community through their generosity of spirit and dedication down through the decades.
