Getting started on HR & Payroll Self Service for retirees

Setting up a HR and Payroll Self Service account

For all retirees (apart from retirees in HSE North East, due to receive HR and Payroll Self Service in 2025) follow the steps below to activate your HR and Payroll Self Service account.

  1. Click on link to Health Shared Services Self Service portal
  2. Select 'Registration tab' at the top right hand corner and then select 'HSE Staff Registration' from the drop-down menu
  3. Enter your HSE (SAP) personnel number. This is an 8 digit number which you will find on your payslip
  4. Enter your email address and select 'submit'
  5. A verification link will be sent to the email address that you entered in step 4
  6. Check your emails. You will receive an email from SAP CoE (noreply.hssportal@hse.ie) - click on the link provided
  7. Once you click on the link, an invitation code appears - only click on 'register'
  8. You are then asked to create a 'username' and 'password'. Create your own username (no restrictions on this, for example, this could be your email). Create your own password. This should have 8 characters that includes upper case, lower case and special character, for example, We!$%. This username and password is used for Health Shared Services Self Service portal only (not for HR and Payroll Self Service access)
  9. Enter the Captcha code and click on 'register'
  10. User Profile appears on screen
  11. To complete activation, select HSE Online Forms at the top of the screen and select Self Service NiSRP from the drop-down menu
  12. Complete the form - select the account activation type “Retiree”.
  13. Once the form is completed, select 'submit'. A 'submission completed successfully' message will appear on screen and you will receive an email from noreply.nisrp@hse.ie confirming your details have been received

How to log into HR and Payroll Self-Service for the first time from a personal device

Follow these steps to get set up for the first time and to set your password:

  1. Access HR and Payroll Self Service
  2. Select Password Reset
  3. Enter your Login ID. This is your HSE (SAP) personnel number prefaced by the letter E for Employees and R for Retirees and mobile number in the format 35387*******
  4. Select Reset
  5. Enter your Login ID and type in (or copy and paste) the Temporary Password received in the text message
  6. Select Log on. Accessing Self-Service from a personal device requires an additional verification code, an 8-digit number every time you log in. The code is sent via text message to your mobile phone. This is a security step, similar to the process used in online banking
  7. Enter the verification code on the login screen
  8. Click Log on
  9. Enter the Old Password. This is the Temporary Password sent to your mobile number. Enter a new password and confirm this. The password must be at least 8 characters long with a requirement for one uppercase letter, one number and a special character for example $&!
  10. Click Change
  11. Your password is now changed and you are logged in to HR and Payroll Self Service

Devices you can use to access HR and Payroll Self Service

You can access HR and Payroll Self-Service on your:

  • personal computer
  • mobile phone or tablet

When logging in from a personal device, you will be sent a 8 digit verification code via text message to your mobile phone. This is a security step, similar to the process used in online banking.

If you do not have a mobile phone number, you will continue to receive the verification code to your email.

Use a desktop shortcut

When you bookmark the HR and Payroll Self Service web address, your browser saves the address for that session only. When you revisit the site using that bookmark you will get an error 'SAML2'.

You are recommended to set up a desktop shortcut for the web address.

Creating a desktop shortcut

  1. Right-mouse click on a blank part of your desktop
  2. Select 'New' and 'Shortcut'
  3. On the next screen enter https://myhseselfservice.hse.ie
  4. Click Next and name the link as HR and Payroll Self Service log­on
  5. Click Finish

Use your mobile phone

Creating an icon and adding it to your home screen is the easiest way to access HR and Payroll Self Service on your mobile phone.

Save icon on Apple smartphone

  • Open Safari internet browser
  • Click into address bar and type: https://healthservice.hse.ie/staff/myhseselfservicesupport/
  • Click Go
  • Click the share button (middle button on the bottom of the screen)
  • Scroll up and select Add to Home Screen
  • Click Add
  • Return to Home Screen and open the newly added icon
  • Click Login to HR and Payroll Self Service

Save icon on Android smartphone

  • Open Google Chrome internet browser
  • Click into address bar and copy and type: https://healthservice.hse.ie/staff/myhseselfservicesupport/
  • Click on the 3 dots in top right hand corner
  • Scroll up and select Add to Home Screen
  • Click Add
  • Touch and hold the icon and place it on the home screen
  • Click the newly added icon
  • Click Login to HR and Payroll Self Service
