Leadership and Capability offer a formal mentoring programme to HSE services interested in implementing mentoring in local areas and regions.
By enabling structured mentor-mentee relationships outside the line-manager context, it supports:
- staff development
- succession planning
- the HSE reform agenda
The programme helps HSE services set up a mentoring programme that enhances staff development, improves performance and supports organisational change.
What mentoring involves
Mentoring is where a more experienced staff member (the mentor) supports another staff member's development (the mentee). It’s a confidential, supportive relationship that is not part of normal management or supervision. Evidence shows that mentoring helps career progression, performance and job satisfaction.
Benefits include:
For mentees
- access to advice
- career guidance
- increased learning opportunities.
For mentors
- opportunity to reinforce skills
- opportunity to raise profile
- contribute to workforce development.
For the organisation
- supports succession planning
- builds leadership capability
- drives performance.
Leadership and Capability help services set up their own mentoring programme by providing resources and training for mentors.
