HSE Superannuation Scheme

In general, all employees in pensionable positions recruited before 1 January 2013 are members of the HSE Superannuation Scheme.

If you transferred from specified bodies (for example former health boards) to the HSE on 1 January 2005 you are also a member of the HSE Superannuation Scheme. You are entitled to the pension terms that applied to you as at 31 December 2004 (ie the Local Government Superannuation Scheme (the 'LGSS').

Benefits of the HSE Superannuation Scheme include:

  • lump sum on retirement
  • pension on retirement
  • death-in-service gratuity
  • spouse's and children’s pension
  • ill-health retirement benefits

It does not deal with members of the Single Public Service Pension Scheme (SPSPS) (for employees recruited on or after 1 January 2013)
