The Paint Punch Project, a series of creative art workshops, recently took place in the Department of Psychiatry, University Hospital, Limerick, as part of the Recovery and Wellbeing Programme.

Delivered in partnership with The Gaff, a community-based creative arts organisation, the project brought service users and staff together to explore creativity and expression through collaborative painting sessions.

This collection is the result of a collaborative process between staff and service users of the Acute Psychiatric Unit at University Hospital Limerick. Over two days, participants explored colour, mark-making, and shared creative expression in a supportive and open environment.

The workshop provided a space where conversation, reflection and creativity could unfold side by side.

The works on display celebrate the value of artistic practice within healthcare settings. They reflect not only individual perspectives, but also the power of collaboration – highlighting connection, participation and the importance of outlets for wellbeing.

Paint Punch was developed by artist Frank McCarthy, who was inspired by the physical movements of boys in Abbeyfeale as they shadow boxed their way through their day. Since 2023, Frank has worked closely with Harry Bradshaw and with fellow artists to bring this unique experience to communities.
