Your January message from CEO, Paul Reid

In this video Paul updates you on: Consulting with staff on the development of the Corporate Plan 2020.

Published: 31 January 2020

This month I deliver my monthly message from the National Drug Treatment Centre on Pearse Street in Dublin’s city centre

The NDTC is one example of healthcare excellence for patients most in need. The service provides a range of specialist treatments for drug users in particular those needing specialist psychiatric and psychological treatment, counselling, social and medical interventions, and advice or information. The NDTC Drug Analysis Laboratory is on-site, providing a national facility to a range of services and the laboratory’s analysis and research supports evidence-based practice in drug treatment policy and clinical developments.

This month I will be focusing on driving the Corporate Plan forward. To do this we need your assistance. First, let me explain what the Corporate Plan is and why we need it.

The Corporate Plan will set out the direction of the HSE for the next five years. It is very important to engage staff in the development of the plan. As our population grows and ages, demands on the health service increase and staff are facing increasing pressures in a changing working environment. We need to make changes. We must deliver services in a new way to meet the needs of our friends, family and colleagues who use our services. It’s very important to me that the input of staff and patients feed into the Corporate Plan for these reasons.

I acknowledge that staff have been working hard to ensure that patients receive excellent care. This week, we released a survey to the public and staff to get your views about what’s important when it comes to improving our health service. I’m asking you to complete this survey to ensure that your voice is heard. The survey won’t take long to complete. Please take part before the closing date, 5.30pm on 17 February.  Your combined, experience and skills will help us to bring about the change you wish to see and the change that the country expects.

In December last year, I announced that a structural review of the HSE Centre would be taking place in the first quarter of 2020. EY (formerly Ernst Young) were selected as the consultants to advise us on how to develop a strategic national centre that will complement and support our six regional structures to help bring decision making to the frontline. This process is currently underway and is due to conclude at the end of May. I will update you on this review in due course.
