The Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control team (AMRIC) has developed a new infection prevention and control/ antimicrobial stewardship (IPC/ AMS) e-learning foundation programme for all health and social care workers. Staff can find this e-learning programme on the HSeLanD platform.
The new course is easy to use, accessible and is open to all healthcare staff.
The programme consists of 8 courses; it is highly interactive throughout and developed using best practice in learning design. The course was developed to support staff throughout the services across multiple settings. This initial suite of resources developed will meet the immediate IPC learning needs of staff.
The free online course is very practical and it aims to enable staff to apply the learning to their own work. The 8 courses are aligned to the HSE’s Interim Infection Prevention and Control Guidance and its framework 2020. Each course includes assessments and extend my learning pieces for those who wish to do further learning on the courses. The courses have been accredited by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland for nursing professional development and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland has also accredited the programme with continuous professional development points (NMBI gives 7 points and RCPI awards 14 points).
Staff will receive credit for each course when it is completed and do not have to complete all 8 courses.
The 8 courses are live on HSeLanD and include:
- Infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship explainer (no credits)
- Basics of infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship
- Hand hygiene
- Standard and transmission-based precautions
- Anti-microbial stewardship
- Personal protective equipment
- Respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette
- Aseptic technique
