The EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards covers the entire island of Ireland. The annual awards are Ireland’s longest-running recognition programme. Supporting, advising and connecting a community of entrepreneurs, throughout Ireland. This is the twenty-third year of the programme and its mission is to promote, celebrate and support entrepreneurship across Ireland, and celebrate the positive contribution entrepreneurs make in the Irish economy and around the world.
Each year the achievements of one individual who has contributed in a meaningful way to the benefit of the entire island are chosen by EY. Previous winners include; Senator Martin McAleese (2010), Fr. Peter McVerry (2015), Aoibheann O’Brien and Iseult Ward of Foodcloud (2017), and Joe Schmidt, Irish Rugby (2019).
Acknowledging the unprecedented times we are living through, this year EY are changing the parameters of this award. For the 2020 special award, they are recognising four representatives across the front line. Paul Reid was presented with this award for his role in leading the public health response to the coronavirus pandemic and as a representative of all health front-line workers.
Speaking on the honour of accepting this award Paul said:
"I’m really humbled to receive this award on behalf of our front line workers. When many of us think back to February or March we were all quite scared about what we were seeing on our screens across Europe, and while many of us could take comfort in the safety of our homes, our front line workers couldn’t. I also want to recognise those health care workers who sadly passed away trying to protect us and give special recognition to them and their families."
Congratulations to all of you on receiving this prestigious award. COVID-19 has negatively impacted our lives in 2020 but one positive outcome from this pandemic is that the public have seen how much we care and we have shown how we respond in times of extreme crisis. The public have a renewed sense of trust in you, our staff, and this award is recognition of the tireless work you continue to do to keep people’s families and communities safe.
