ONMSD and the National Clinical Programme for Self-Harm and Suicide Related Ideation
The Nurse lead for Self-Harm and Suicide Related Ideation provides the programme with expert leadership, guidance and support in the context of the delivery of evidenced based care.
The nurse lead contribution to programme implementation is through:
- Progressing key initiatives developed by the National Clinical Programme for Self-Harm and Suicide-related Ideation (NCPSHI) and support on-going implementation recommendations set out in the Model of Care document
- Developing the clinical practice of nurses working both in the emergency department and primary care
- Providing professional leadership to the nursing groups
- Collaborating with and advising the NCPSHI on service design, delivery and create awareness and recognition of the principles underpinning NCP for patients presenting to the ED and primary care settings
- Providing professional practice and career development opportunities for nurses in the ED and primary care settings
- Providing nurse education and a continuing professional development framework
- Ensuring nursing involvement in the design and implementation of system improvements
- Undertaking site visits
- Working with Nurses, Medical and Health and Social Care Professionals to improve patient flow
- Liaising with other National Clinical Programmes to promote an integrated approach to care of a patient presenting with self-harm or in a suicidal crisis
- Providing direction and guidance in relation to nursing workforce planning, and the development of specialist and advanced nursing practice
- Acting as an advisor on national policy development and implementation groups
