NMPDU South-West

Peer Group Clinical Supervision Project

The NMPDU in conjunction with nursing and midwifery services continues to support the implementation and sustainability of Peer Group Clinical Supervision for nurses and midwives in Cork and Kerry.

The Peer Group Clinical Supervision Project commenced with a Pilot Project (September 2018 to August 2019). The pilot oversaw the development, implementation and evaluation of Peer Group Clinical Supervision across participating sites. Phase 2 (2020-2021) of the Peer Group Clinical Supervision Project is currently ongoing.

Evidence-Based Practice Initiative Collaborative Group

The Evidence-Based Practice Initiative Collaborative (EBPIC) group aims to:

  • strengthen collaborative evidence-based practice initiatives in nursing and midwifery
  • build on the partnerships between the NMPDU, HSE Library, health service providers and higher education institutions in Cork and Kerry.

NMPDU South-East

Funded Research Masters Initiative

The (Clinical and Academic Research Evidence) CARE Collaboration is a research masters initiative funded by the NMPDU South East. NMPDU Kilkenny and Waterford Institute of Technology lead the initiative. Successful nurse and midwife applicants are awarded a 2-year research stipend to undertake service identified nursing or midwifery research.

Coaching

The HSE South East Coaching Group is established for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford. The group is coordinated by the NMPDU South East.

NMPDU North-West

Donegal Person Centred Culture Practice Development Project

NMPDU North West in collaboration with Services for Older Persons in Donegal is engaged on a project called the Donegal Person Centred Culture Practice Development Project. The project focuses on:

  • exploring how nurses and the healthcare team who are caring for people with dementia can be enabled to enhance current practice
  • the wellbeing of nurses and the healthcare team who are caring for people with dementia and residents

The focus of the project is the development of a more person-centred and evidence-informed culture of care.

Health passport for people with an intellectual disability in contact with an acute hospital

NMPDU provided support for this initiative under the service improvement and innovation fund. The purpose of this project was to develop and put in place a pilot Health Passport. The Health Passport is a communication tool to help people with intellectual disabilities communicate aspects of their health and social care needs.

NMPDU West Mid West

Peer Group Clinical Supervision Project

The NMPDU West Mid West is currently implementing Peer Group Clinical Supervision across the region. This initiative is supported by Directors of Nursing and Midwifery and National University of Ireland, Galway. A Peer Group Clinical Supervision Document has been developed to support the implementation of Peer Group Clinical Supervision. Developing and implementing this guidance document is central to promoting the personal and professional development of nurses and midwives and improving the quality of patient outcomes.

NMPDU North-East

The North East Nursing and Midwifery Research Group

The North East Nursing and Midwifery Research Group (NMRG) was established by the NMPDU North East in 2014. The NMRG supports:

  • the development of research capacity
  • implementation of evidence-based practice initiatives throughout the North East

NMRG provides the following:

  • targeted help for nurses and midwives which includes masterclasses and workshops in research related topics
  • one to one support
  • initiatives to encourage research and evidence-based quality improvement projects.

Membership of this group comprises many stakeholders including nursing and midwifery management, practice management, practice development, advanced practice, higher education institutions and library expertise.
