Sponsorship Scheme for Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Sexual Assault Forensic examination
Sponsorship is available for nurses or midwives who want to join the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (Sexual Assault Forensic Examination).
This programme is delivered by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in partnership with the HSE.
This programme will qualify you to care for people who report rape or sexual assault by:
- carrying out clinical forensic examinations
- providing holistic care
This work is done in Sexual Assault Treatment Units (SATUs).
This is a full-time programme delivered over 1 calendar year.
Who can apply?
To apply for this programme you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
You must also have at least 4 years post-qualification experience. At least 1 of these years of recent experience must be in one or more of the following areas:
- sexual assault treatment units
- sexual health
- colposcopy
- gynaecology
- midwifery
- family planning
- accident and emergency nursing
Recent experience means within the last 3 years.

After you complete the programme
You must take a full-time permanent post as a clinical nurse or midwife specialist (Sexual Assault Forensic Examination) for at least 2 years.
If you don't do this, you may need to repay the sponsorship fees and the value of the salary received.
This may not apply if the hospital that sponsored you can't offer you a relevant position.
